Intimate and cosy

  • DJIBOUTI

Djibouti is an ideal location for hot summer days and for first dates. I should know as I chose this place for a second date. I adore the African feel and décor with its dark blue and purple lighting and fun tunes. Cocktails can be on the expensive side so best to get one 1 or 2. The food could be better but if you’re looking for little bites to eat this is a good option.

Feel: Chill and flirty.

  • MISSY HO

With funky décor and dim lighting, this spot is fit for a romantic meal for two. Finding the entrance is somewhat of a mission for first timers. Still, its secret location will add a dash of adventure to your date. Its wild interior with birdcages and superhero Marvel toys hanging from the chandeliers give you the sense that you’ve entered a slightly alternate universe. Exotic Asian fusion food is on offer at Missy Ho accompanied by lip smacking cocktails.

Feel: Whimsical and intimate

Mrs Fox is a spacious and outgoing place.  Large copper pipes even run throughout the joint filled with beer. Their cocktail list is extensive and creative as well as their tasty craft beers on tap. It is an alternative venue, away from the hustle and bustle of Lan Kwai Fong or Wanchai for an after work date. The interior is welcoming and quirky with stuffed deer heads and book filled walls. They have delicious bar bites to nibble on. That is if the butterflies-in-stomach feeling is too overwhelming to eat a proper meal.

Feel: Relaxed and quirky

From the French brothers who brought you the chic bistro Cocotte, comes Neo. Show your date that you’re part of the in-crowd by taking them to this fun new venue. Neo’s creative artisanal cocktails are a big hit there. Their vintage playboy pinball machine and top notch foosball table also pull the crowds in. Its plush velvet seats and dim light provide a playful hangout. Show off your skills while playing a flirtatious game or two.

You cannot go wrong with Sevva. If you’re willing to go all out and splurge, this place is worth it. Their cocktails are on the expensive side, but you are paying for their 360° panoramic view over the harbour and twinkling city. The smooth tunes infiltrating the night scene create a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. Of course, there is a long list of delectable and sexy cocktails. I recommend the kamasutra!

  • SUGAR

You may not think of Taikoo for romance and stylish bars but Sugar delivers on both. Here, you will have a complete different perspective of Hong Kong’s skyline. The purple blue hues and comfy couches render an absolute cosy and romantic setting. What is more, the cocktails are just as sublime and service is impeccable. It is a trek but imagine the long walk home with your date – if it went well that is!

Perched on the 34th floor of the Excelsior Hotel in Causeway Bay, this rooftop bar offers an alternative but stunning view of the harbour. The high chair tables offer a more private ambiance, being of ideal distance from the other tables. They have a vast cocktail and wine list for you to sample. With live music in the background, it will get you in the mood to sway your date on the dance floor later!

Feel: Private and sophisticated
Address: 34/F, The Excelsior, 281 Gloucester Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong

  • WOOLOOMOOLOOO (ROOFTOP BAR WAN CHAI)

Wooloomooloo’s rooftop in Wan Chai has one of the greatest views of Hong Kong’s skyline. I would go straight for the bar rather than the restaurant as many have come back disappointed. Expect a more relaxed vibe with great tunes and affordable delicious cocktails.

Feel: laid-back and affordable
